Okay, this morning I was reading in my Bible, and I ran across Genesis 5:24. For anyone reading this who may not know that particular verse by heart, it's about the genealogy between Adam and Noah, and the passage lists all the men between, and that they died. It specifically says for each man, he lived however many years, and then he died. But in verse 5:24, it talks about Enoch, and says that he walked with God, and then he was no more because God took him to heaven.
My next thought: why? So I looked around in the footnotes (I've got the New Life Application Bible), and there is a little note right next to the verse which led me to 2 Kings 2:1. This verse is about when God took Elijah the prophet up to heaven in "a whirlwind".
Now, to me, this seems like it would be something much like today's tornado.
My question is, if a tornado is something that God used to take the righteous up to heaven ... why do we have them today? They are so damaging, and they also do occasionally suck people up into the abyss don't they? Is this God using his tool to take up his people, or Satan using a replica, or am I looking at something that isn't there?
If I'm stretching too far, please feel free to say so ... but it got into my head and I wanted to see what others had to say on the subject. So if you've got an idea ... or an answer, LOL ... let me know! |
